Smith should go next. Keep him as a batsmen but put in a new captain. His captaincy is ok when we are on top but useless when things are going against us. A good captain would have got us victory in the 2 drawn tests against England.

  2. I agree, that Duncan Fletcher would be a viable option. Look at what he did for England in 2005

We need a hard man like Wessels to instill some discipline into the team. Especially the senior players who think they too good to practise and keep in shape. The captain needs to set an example.

  4. Smith was the problem when Jennings was ‘fired’ Smith is again the problem with the resignation of Arthur, We hear on the news that Smith is the problem why Wessels can’t be appointed. Isn’t Smith the big problem in S.A Cricket?

@Andre @Simple Simon, geeze guys, let’s try be positive, it wasn’t so long ago that we were singing Smith’s praise when we won in Australia and he played with a broken hand.

I think I’ll hang myslef if Kepler Wessles is appointed coach, what’s he done in the past few years to justify becoming the coach?

@Simple Simon who are these who are “too good to practice and keep in shape” ?

  6. Simple Simon says:

Smith has never played under a good captain, so who’s he learnt from? We lost the home series against a mediocre Aussie team early last year and drew with an avaerage England team. Not exactly brilliant is it. We lost the ODI series against England. Definately something wrong don’t you think?

As for the out of shape players Smith was the worst. He could hardly run for a ball at one stage and Kallis was very similar. OK they have sorted themselves out now, but why did they get to that point.

You are probably right about Kepler Shaun, our guys are not tough enough for a coach like him.

I’d just like to note a correction to this post, the ‘citing differences with Proteas captain Graeme Smith’ is incorrect, I received that information from a professional sports journalist who obviously made that up.
