I’ll trade you your biscuits for a bucket of fried chicken

Which would you prefer your kid to eat, a few biscuits or a few pieces of deep fried chicken? Bakers announced recently that have ended their 27 year sponsorship with Cricket South Africa.

Bakers Mini-Cricket is the longest running developmental sports programme in Southern Africa with over 100,000 primary school children from over 5000 schools annually taking part in the programme.

Players such as Shaun Pollock, Mark Boucher and Makayha Ntini have played Bakers Mini-Cricket, now this is pure speculation but I reckon that KFC will take over the sponsorship of Mini-Cricket.

Will our kids stay ‘mini’ if they eat fried chicken every time they play a few overs of cricket in between innings?

No just taking the piss there, KFC seems to be pushing into the cricket advertising and sponsorship space, which is good for cricket. The more money the game can attract the bigger the game will become.

I wonder why Bakers ended their sponsorship after 27 years, it’s bizarre. Guess money talks at the end of the day.

  1. I played Bakers cricket. It’s known as BAKERS cricket… Was very surprised about it, but I guess things change…

    Bring on the oily chicken!

  2. I was really sad to hear this bit of news. Even I played Bakers [though only a few matches ;) ].
But this has been one of the best sponsorship campaigns ever and nurtured such amazing talent. Sad to see it at an end and I hope the next sponsorship deal, even if its KFC, can push the game and the players even further.

  3. Wow….what a shock…let’s just say, I don’t think it was a “Mutual Break Up”…you have to ask the question, is money a good enough reason to kill a 30 year relationship?!!!!
